Campaign Overview

Each year, Need in Deed hosts the Steps for Education Campaign to raise funds to support our work of transforming teaching and learning in Philadelphia public schools. Participants sign up to run, walk, bike, or swim a certain number of miles over the campaign period. They then invite their networks to support Need in Deed.

About Need in Deed

Need in Deed advances education equity by supporting 3rd to 8th grade Philadelphia public school classrooms to be engaging spaces for learning and civic involvement. Need in Deed students embrace their roles as citizens and see themselves as able to effect change in their communities. At the beginning of the school year, students work together to identify a social issue that they care about; their teachers use this issue as the lens for academic learning throughout the year. Students learn about the causes and effects of the issue through research and through guest speakers who are experts on the issue. At the end of the year, students complete a service project addressing a cause or effect of the issue. Students learn that the skills and information of the classroom are powerful tools for effecting the change they want to see.

With your help, we can take Steps for Education and ensure equitable access to high quality learning experiences for our children.

Campaign Details

We invite you to join our campaign and help us reach our goal of $20,000. There are three ways you can Take Steps for Education:

1. Make a donation directly to the campaign by clicking on the white Donate button at the top of the page.

2. Support a participant. Scroll down to see the list of supporters and choose one to support.

3. Participate and fundraise through your networks. Rally your friends, family, and networks to support our work. As a fundraiser, you will help Philadelphia 3rd to 8th grade public school students, and you'll help your friends feel good about doing good.

Starting a fundraiser is easy to do, and it's fun. We'll give you all the tools you'll need. With your help we can take Steps for Education and ensure equitable access to high quality learning experiences for our children.

Step 2: Create your account and tell your network why you support Need in Deed and why you think they should too. Include your movement goal (e.g. 40 miles over the campaign period) in your message.

Step 3: Set your fundraising goal! There will be prizes for those who raise the most funds, so let the competition begin!
